Here is a simply step-by-step guide on how to replace a broken screen on your Sony Vaio Laptop.

Here is a simply step-by-step guide on how to replace a broken screen on your Sony Vaio Laptop.

  • Laptop model: Sony Vaio PCG-61317L
  • Screen Model #: 739143 from LaptopScreen.com
  • Tools Required: Small Screw Driver and X-Acto Knife
Problem:

  • Clean a work area and remove the battery.
  • Remove the four rubber pads and remove the screws beneath them.

  • Gently peal the trim off by working from the inside and push outwards. If you try to just pull it off from a corner, you'll break off the clips on the trim. Patience!

  • Remove four strips of black tape covering four screws. Once removed, gently peel the top of the screen off the back and fold it towards you.

Make sure not to pull or twist on the connector on the bottom!
  • Now that the screen is folded down, locate the connector at the bottom and with an x-acto knife, peel off the orange tape and cut the transparent tape along the red line. Remove the broken screen.

  • Unbox the new screen from LaptopScreen.com. Leave the transparent film on, secure the cable at the bottom and screw in the four screws and then remove the film.

  • Connect the battery and turn on to ensure that A) the new screen is functional and B) the cable was secured correctly.
  • Remove the film and replace the four black strips of tape on top of the screws.
  • Position screen trim in place and begin snapping in place from one corner all the  way around. Firm pressure may be required! Though make sure not to break the screen again...
  • Screw in the four corner screws and turn it on for a test run!
  • Thanks to Laptopscreen.com for the great screen and fast shipping! Overall this took me about 15 minutes top and was very simply! The quality of the screen is just the same as the original and purchasing the screen from Laptopscreen.com couldn't have been easier!
